Phillies Cheese-less Steak

I have never been to Philadelphia. But I have been to Denny's. I remember once when I was at a Denny's I thought I'd try something that I'd always heard of but never tried, a Cheesesteak. I remember it was good, if greasy and fatty and I wanted to explode afterwards.
Seeing as the World Series Game 4 is currently being played in Philly, I thought I'd help the team (and my stomach) out by making a healthy twist on the Cheesesteak. My version starts of with steak kebabs, and gives you the option to eat it in a bun or not, it's all up to you. The best part (aside from how awesome it tastes) is how easy it is to make. Seriously, this could not be easier.
Ingredients:
- 1 red bell pepper
- 1/2 sweet onion
- 1 steak (cut of your choice)
- 2 tbsp steak sauce
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- sprinkle of Montreal Steak Spice
- 1 whole grain baguette (optional)
First thing you want to do is cut up your steak. You want to slice it into small strips about 1/2 inch thick. Keep in mind you want them big enough to stay on a skewer, but not too big to be edible in a sandwich.
Take your chunks of steak and put them in a sealable dish. Cover them with your steak sauce (I should point out that the one I used was organic & sugar-free from Trader Joe's) & add in your Worcestershire & Montreal Steak Spice. Mix it all up with your hands, cover and stick in the fridge for about 4 hours.
When you're ready to eat slice up your red bell pepper into strips. Remember to keep the strips wide enough so that they won't break on the skewer, but skinny enough to eat, about 1/2 inch should be good for this. Take your onion half and do the same thing cutting it into strips.
Once all of the prep work is done take out your steak and start to feed them onto bamboo skewers alternating onion-pepper-steak until you've used up all your ingredients.
Preheat the broiler in your oven. Lay the skewers onto a broiling pan with a rack in it. Pop them under the broiler. It should take about 5-10 minutes for the steak to cook, then flip it over and cook the other side. Broilers can vary, so keep an eye on it, and make sure they don't burn.
Take them out of the oven and set to rest on a plate.
You can eat them just like that as kebabs, but if you're in the mood for a little more of a treat you can easily turn them into a sandwich. I took a 1/3 of a whole grain baguette, sliced it in half and scooped out the insides. This will make a nice divet for the ingredients to sit in so they don't fall out. Take all your steak, peppers & onions off of 1-2 skewers and put them in the baguette. Drizzle a tiny amount of your steak sauce on top to finish.
Now hope the Phillies win the game!
