peppermint tea & playlists

Not everyone drinks coffee.  I know, it’s a bit hard to believe.  But some people prefer to drink tea.  In fact it’s even become sort of a chi-chi-hipster drink now (ahem... Kevin Rose).  While I’m not a daily tea drinker, I do like a good cuppa now and then.

I figured for this week’s currently brewing & day 14 of our countdown to christmas that I’d take a minute to review a tea I particularly like.  It’s fancy, and French but under five bucks.  St. Dalfour has become one of my favourite brands of sugar-free jam over the past few years.  They have inventive flavours and amazing taste, which can be rare in healthy companies.

When I was in the European aisle at Save-On-Foods the other day I noticed their Organic teas.  Knowing the value their company places on quality I was eager to try their peppermint tea, a brew I’d never been too fond of.

Unlike a lot of peppermint tea, this one doesn’t get bitter or have a weird aftertaste.  It’s a clean, delicate mint flavour.  A must for a cold winter night when you want to be low-key.

As a bonus, it’s certified organic by IFOAM & IMO (european organic standards).  The tea is packaged in natural paper, the Ceylon gardens where the bushes grow use organic biomass and everything is free of chemicals.  They don’t even use staples to hold the string & bag together, they have this weird slip-string thing.  I think even Al Gore would approve of this tea.

You might have also noticed if you’re a frequent visitor of the site that I recommend music to listen to from time to time.  I find it’s always best to get in the cooking mood.  So for this week’s currently brewing I thought I’d share some of my favourite mellow Christmas Songs to play while you’re relaxing with your peppermint tea!

Baby It’s Cold Outside - Zooey Daschanel & Leon Redbone

The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole

Santa Baby - Eartha Kitt or Madonna... both are great

River - Robert Downey, Jr

Maybe This Christmas - Ron Sexsmith

Winter Song - Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson

Blue Christmas - Nicole Atkins

Christmas Song - Mogwai

Christmastime - the Smashing Pumpkins
